The Homer Laughlin Company has announced the latest Fiesta Ware color. The new color, Lemongrass, will be released this summer.  It is a yellow green that is meant to coordinate with the recent releases of chocolate, released this past winter, and 2008’s ivory.  It is a bit less green than the chartreuse color.  Macy’s is going to be among the first to receive and offer the new color for sale.  The new color will begin shipping in June.

I quite like this color, and look forward to seeing it in person in a few months.

square.jpgThere are also square luncheon plates in a variety of colors. The shape allows much flexibility to mix and match on the same table.   There is going to be a larger line of square dinnerware introduced throughout 2009.

I am not sure yet whether I would go to a whole table of square, but it does evoke a slightly art deco motif.  I have had square dishes before and rather liked them.

What are your thoughts?

they look so cute! :)
I love colored plates and cups. I bought squared black plates when i moved away from my parents and also i bought black coffee cups and tea cups. Black seems elegant. The lemongrass color looks great. It mixes well with orange.

I never was on the black cup bandwagon. Maybe I am weird, but I think for some reason there’s dust that I can’t see in there, or I can’t get a good spatial relationship idea of how much juice or hot chocolate I have left. It is like looking into a black hole! I think black Fiesta didn’t sell all that well because people buy it for color. I did have square dishes at one time, though, and it reminded me of a fancy restaurant.

I DO love orange, though. It is one of my favorite colors. I agree, I think the lemongrass would look very smart with it. I know they are pushing for a chocolate/ivory/lemongrass family, but I think orange/lemongrass/ivory would look even more smashing.

This is beautiful!! We have some old pieces in cobalt blue and red orange. both colors were discontinued because they were unhealthy to eat from? All the new colors are very safe. The pieces are so decorative in the cupboard. Best from Santa Barbara. s

The Fiesta Red was initially discontinued because uranium was needed for the war effort in 1943. The later red used depleted uranium. HLC came out with a “new” red that really looked orange to me.

Hmm..I have never heard about the whole cobalt thing…I will have to look that up. I do have a “mystery” cobalt plate that looks like fiesta but may not be quite…

We LoVe Fiestaware! I have over 300 modern Fiestaware pieces that we use year round. No square pieces yet, though I’d really like some. Can’t wait to see Lemongrass in person. It sounds like it’s more yellow than green. I suppose they did that because they’ve already had the mega popular ‘Chartreuse’. I’ve heard “Radioactive Red” is perfectly safe to eat from. Just don’t store food in it. BTW, helpful Fiestaware hint: To prevent stacking marks, place coffee-filters between plates. Paper plates work too.
Fiestaware brings *HAPPINESS* to the dinner table like nothing else ever will!! LoVe it!!

You don’t seem like a “dumblady” to me at all :)
